Fair City: Orla's new family dream comes crashing down as she slaps Ruth over nasty comment

After starting to make headway with Ruth, Orla's world comes crashing down around her as she slaps Ruth for speaking badly of Junior this week.

It all kicks off on Tuesday night as Paul doesn’t take Orla’s Tiny Tours sideline gig seriously.

Orla gets Paul out of a childminding jam but goes into protective mode when she learns Junior has been picked on at school.

Sniping at each other Ruth confronts Orla, telling her that nobody likes Junior in school and that he should have died when he got sick.

“He’s a whinging little wimp, he should have just died when he got sick and saved us all the hassle”.

Caught up in her emotions, Orla reacts by slapping Ruth across the face. Both in shock, Ruth runs off and Orla is left in turmoil. Is she the wicked step-mother from hell? And will Ruth tell Paul?

Distraught, Orla confides in Carol, worried that she’s reached a point of no return with Ruth and that she has dragged Junior into a home that he’s not happy in, when all she wanted was for this situation to work.

She panics and dreads telling Paul about the slap.

Worried it will look bad for her too, Ruth begs Orla not to tell her father about the slap so they keep their mouths shut. But even more trouble is just around the corner.

Elsewhere, Laura and Mark continue to argue about the house.

When Damien and Mark have a heart to heart, Laura tells Damien and Mairead why the family home means so much to her.

So Damien works out a compromise which suits both Laura and Mark.

Later on, Alex tells Jon of Melanie’s decision to take the job in Dubai and Ray tells Jon that she has made the right decision.

Melanie is touched by Mondo’s support in her move to Dubai.

Meanwhile, Jon is full of regret for the choices he made in the past.
