REFORM UK are under fire after accepting a member who has appeared on extreme far-right podcasts and “bricked up” a sexual health clinic.
Niall Fraser, formerly of the Scottish Family Party, has jumped ship to join Nigel Farage’s outift and attended their conference in Perth at the start of the month.
Reform have been urged to expel him from the party for his past activities.
Fraser was previously revealed by The Ferret to have been interviewed by Simon Crane (below), the organiser of the neo-Nazi group Patriotic Alternative.
He reportedly described Crane as a “like-minded” person.
Announcing an updated anti-extremism policy in March, then-communities secretary Michael Gove stopped short of saying Patriotic Alternative would be proscribed by the UK Government, but said they promoted a “Neo-Nazi ideology”, a charge the group said was “misleading”.
A post by the Homeland Party, a far-right group which supports ethnonationalism and the removal of ethnic minority people from the UK, said Fraser would appear as a guest on a livestream with them.
The video has since been made private on YouTube.
He was also involved in a stunt protesting the provision of transgender health care at the Sandyford clinic in Glasgow, which saw him and others block the entrance to the facility with cardboard bricks.
Fraser said the gimmick was taking a stand against the “rainbow mob”.
He was also filmed last year heckling the then-first minister Humza Yousaf at an Edinburgh Fringe event, where Fraser told the SNP politician: “F*** you. You are a pestilence on the land.”
In the Rutherglen by-election last year, Fraser was the Scottish Family Party candidate and won just 319 votes.
Greens MSP Maggie Chapman said Reform attracted people with “reactionary and extreme views” and called on the party to boot him out.
She said: “Reform recently updated their vetting policy to discourage anyone with connections to extreme groups from standing as a candidate, but it seems like the call is coming from inside the house.
“They surely need to ask themselves why so many people with such reprehensible views would want to join their party. If Reform has any kind of commitment to rights or equality they must surely refuse Mr Fraser’s application.”
Alba's general secretary Chris McEleny said: “He seems like a Unionist crank. Obviously party leaders don’t approve every member that joins a political party but he does sound like the sort of guy that even Nigel Farage and Richard Tice would have their membership cancelled if brought to their attention.”
Speaking to The National, Fraser confirmed he was a member of Reform and added: “Not validating this with a response. Pointless to add to the rag you write for. Use that if you want.”
Reform did not respond to a request for comment.
