FAI reaction to big Euro 2028 bid decision by Government, as Wednesday deadline looms

The FAI has hailed the decision by the Government on Tuesday evening to support Ireland’s participation in the joint bid with England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland to host Euro 2028.

The Government agreed at a Cabinet meeting the final details of the Irish side of the bid, ahead of Wednesday’s final submission deadline.

Issues such as security and transport were discussed and signed off at Cabinet.

Reacting to the development, an FAI spokesperson told Mirror online: “The FAI notes and welcomes today’s decision by the Government of Ireland to support the bid to co-host UEFA EURO 2028 ahead of the formal submission of the final five nation joint bid to UEFA tomorrow.”

The joint bid will face competition from Turkey, with a decision from UEFA due later this year.
