Fagan questions midday start after AFL cramp-fest

Brisbane coach Chris Fagan has questioned the early start time of the Lions' fixture with West Coast that he believes left his team with a "record number of cramps".

Play began at 12.10pm local time on Sunday in Brisbane as temperatures hit 30 degrees in high humidity after a morning storm.

The Eagles kicked the first five goals to ambush Brisbane before the Lions responded to win by 19 points.

West Coast lost ruckmen Bailey Williams and Archer Reid to cramp during the match, while both sides resembled the walking wounded post-game.

"It was hot and humid ... I don't know the reasoning, but I think it's pretty tough on players," Fagan said.

"You'd need to ask the AFL about it. I don't think I've been involved in a game that's started at 12 o'clock, ever.

"That's 20-odd years, so (it's) unusual.

"They were pretty cooked and you could tell just walking out onto the ground after - probably a record number of cramps, I don't know.

"I haven't seen that many of our blokes struggle like that.

"I'm not sure we'll be doing too much training this week. We'll be recovering to get ready for Geelong (on Saturday)."

Fagan also said the club would be patient with defender Brandon Starcevich - concussed for the second time this year last weekend - with no timeline placed on his return.
