Merthyr Tydfil's only open public swimming pool has announced that it is closed for two days due to a 'faecal incident'. Aberfan and Merthyr Vale community centre pool is the only swimming facility available in the area since the pool at Merthyr Tydfil Leisure Centre shut in December 2019.
In an online statement, Wellbeing Merthyr - a charitable trust that manages the leisure and cultural facilities within Merthyr Tydfil - said: "Due to a faecal incident, Aberfan and Merthyr Vale pool will be closed until Friday evening. We apologise for any inconvenience."
Merthyr Tydfil's other swimming pool, in Merthyr Tydfil Leisure Centre, shut four years ago due to leaks affecting the concrete and causing tiles to lift off. However, in February 2023, it was announced by the council that work started on the pool facility at the end of 2022 and it is set to reopen in autumn 2023.
The council said it is working with international leisure facilities developer, Alliance Leisure, and business services company Red Start on the project. You can read more here.
