Facebook and Instagram go down as users report outage

Facebook users have reported outages as the social networking site appears to be down.

There have been 1616 reports of Facebook outages in the last hour, according to Down Detector, as well as hundreds on Instagram.

Many have been taking to Twitter to report their issues - with photos of the Facebook website showing an error message which says 'sorry, something went wrong'.

The error message adds: "We're working on getting this fixed as soon as we can." Users were only given the option to 'go back'.

Facebook and Instagram users took to Twitter to complain about the problem. Samira Hills tweeted: "Hey you! Coming to Twitter to see if Instagram and Facebook are down? Well I can confirm..they are."

Murtaza said: "It's that time of the year again. Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp down.."

Mirza joked: "Instagram, Facebook & Whatsapp down *immediately checks twitter to see if it's only me*."

And Claire said: "When you head straight to Twitter to check if Facebook is down for everyone else as well of if its just you #facebookdown."
