Face-Covering Collars Are This Season's Sartorial Solution for Battling Absolutely Brutal Conditions

A few seasons back balaclavas became all the rage. They even began popping up on catwalks. While they're still in fashion and can be bought via several luxury and fast-fashion online retailers, this season another way to survive the cold weather is taking shape. We're talking about face-covering collars.

Consider it an extension of the scarf coat craze. Collars so high they cover part or half of a model's face were spotted all over the Fall 2024 runways. Victoria Beckham, Chloe, Stella McCartney, Burberry and MSGM all embraced the funnel-neck silhouette. Most are adjustable thanks to well-positioned buttons so you can control how much of your visage is exposed to the elements.

The stand-up necklines aren't restricted to coats, however. Leave it to the purveyor of all things cool The Frankie Shop to give us some truly trendy knits. Take its ribbed sweater dress that can be worn solo over tights or paired with pants. Or even cargo shorts and super slouchy boots. You can raise the collar so it covers your mouth or push it down so it barely touches your chin for a gathered look. Another option is the brand's drastically oversize jumper with a zip neckline. Which means you can quite literally cover your entire head if you so desire. COS bridges the coat and sweater gap with a knitted bomber jacket with a zipper that goes from the bottom all the way up to the tip-top.

Ready to fearlessly brave the cold? Then scroll down to find the best pieces featuring face-covering collars that'll see you through the season.
