Arsenal have confirmed the transfer of attacking midfielder Fabio Vieira from FC Porto. The deal is said to cost roughly £35million, and marks Mikel Arteta ’s first signing in the summer transfer market.
Discussing the transfer, the Spaniard told the official Arsenal website : “I am very excited that we have identified and signed such a special talent. Fabio is a very creative player that will bring high quality and versatility to our attacking play.
“We welcome Fabio and his family to our club and are looking forward to starting work with him ahead of the new season.” The 22-year-old is set to join his new teammates for pre-season in the coming weeks, with the Gunners preparing for the new season.

In confirmation of his deal, the Portuguese midfielder has already been handed his new squad number. While a full list of numbers is yet to be announced, there have already been some changes, with Eddie Nketiah taking the fabled 14, once of Thierry Henry, following his contract extension.
Vieira will take the number 21 on the back of his new shirt, formerly of Calum Chambers who left for Aston Villa back in January. However, in light of the new addition, it could have an impact upon another potential incoming.
Ajax’s Lisandro Martinez has worn the same number on his back for three-years at the club, ruling out the possibility of him doing the same at the Emirates amid transfer rumours linking him with a switch. While this may be a problem for some players, it may not be for the defender, who has worn an array of numbers throughout his career.
