Fabio Paratici has hailed Rodrigo Bentancur and Dejan Kulusevski as the “right players in the right positions” after a frustrating transfer window for Tottenham.
Antonio Conte has frequently spoken about the club’s need to raise the “level” of the squad after drifting back down the league as the glory days of the Mauricio Pochettino era faded into memory.
Still, it was a largely frustrating month for the club. Barcelona and Liverpool beat Spurs to Adama Traore and Luis Diaz respectively, leading into a frantic final few days of the window in which they landed the Juventus pair while letting a number of players leave.
Paratici, who has been criticised by some for his work since joining Spurs in 2021, moved to defend their business.
“It’s just one month, not three months like in the summer,” he said to the club’s official Twitter account.
“A lot of teams, a lot of clubs don’t want to move some players. It’s a market about opportunities.
“We were looking for specific positions. I think we found the right players in the right positions.
“Players like Bentancur and Kulusevski are young but they have a lot of experience because Bentancur plays for five years at Juventus, almost 200 games and Kulusevksi almost 100.”
