Fabio Carvalho makes immediate impression on new Liverpool teammates in pre-season training

Fabio Carvalho has impressed his new Liverpool teammates during his first week of training following his transfer from Fulham.

The Reds completed the signing of the Portuguese talent this summer after Carvalho, 19, almost joined the Reds in the January transfer window, but after a deal was agreed at the eleventh hour, the Anfield club failed to complete the necessary paperwork before the midnight deadline.

Carvalho had been an England Under-18 international but was born in Portugal before moving to London with his family in 2013, and now represents the country of his birth at Under-21 level. The deal that took him to Anfield was concluded for a reported £5million, potentially rising to £7.7million with add-ons.

Carvalho is one of three new signings at Liverpool this summer, along with striker Darwin Nunez from Benfica and 18-year-old defender Calvin Ramsay, signed from Aberdeen, with all three expected to be a part of the Liverpool squad to fly to Bangkok this weekend for their pre-season tour.

Carvalho has already made an impression on his new Liverpool teammates, including Rhys Williams, who has spoken of the impact he believes the Portugal youth international will have on the club.

"We've already seen with Fabio training today and yesterday, he's of a high, high standard," Williams explained on LFCTV. "He's brilliant on the ball, he's getting used to the way we want to play and the way we want to press. I think everyone that the club has signed is going to have a massive impact for us."

Midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, who is expected to compete with Carvalho for his place in Jurgen Klopp's squad, added: "Fab, he's obviously a young player, very technically gifted," the 28-year-old said.

"I saw a few little bits from him at Fulham last year, and from guys I know there, they all speak very highly of him. I'm sure we're going to see him learn from a lot of the boys around here as well and settle in.

"Just any new faces like that, it breeds the competition for places and a bit of excitement – something new, something fresh. It sort of makes everyone stick it into the next gear to impress and to make sure the standards stay high. It's a good thing, always."

Liverpool will kick off their pre-season action against Manchester United in Thailand on 12 July.
