Fabio Carvalho has just revealed Liverpool tactical plan that will be unleashed when season restarts

Fabio Carvalho has insisted Liverpool are looking to restore their pressing identity as Jurgen Klopp's prepare for a return to action once the World Cup ends in one week.

The Reds have looked a shadow of their usual selves at times this season, being outrun and outfought in many of the matches during the opening weeks in particular. Performances began to improve ahead of the break for the World Cup, and Klopp will hope his players can reach such levels in the months ahead.

Liverpool's first game back as a group took place yesterday in Dubai as Lyon inflicted a 3-1 defeat, but Carvalho's opener will certainly give belief the Reds' pressing game has not disappeared just yet.

A collective press in the final third saw Roberto Firmino intercept Sinaly Diomande's stray pass, leading to Mohamed Salah being played through and subsequently squaring for Carvalho to fire into an empty net.

Asked after the game if this finish highlighted the effectiveness of applying pressure high up the pitch, the midfielder told Liverpoolfc.com : "One hundred per cent, that’s what we’ve been working on all week and obviously it paid off today.

"We could have done it more often and we just need to tidy up with little tweaks and together we can do it. Like it showed [yesterday] in the first minute, it paid off and we’re going to keep working on that."

On the analysis work that has taken place during the first week of Liverpool's training camp, Carvalho continued: "For me it has certainly helped because we have been looking at videos from last season and obviously it has helped.

"We want to get back to pressing how the team pressed last year, which was very useful in games and we created a lot of chances from it. We haven’t quite been at the level pressing-wise this year and it’s something we’ve been working on and will keep working on. Hopefully we’ll be back to our best."
