Fabio Carvalho claim made as Liverpool legend addresses Luis Diaz 'good problem'

Liverpool legend Ian Rush has sent a message to Fabio Carvalho about why he should opt to join Liverpool this summer.

The Reds pushed to sign the Fulham teenager on transfer deadline day, but could not get a deal over the line in time.

A deal had been agreed with the Championship club to sign Carvalho and loan him back to Fulham for the remainder of the season, but the paperwork could not be completed before the deadline.

Despite this, Rush says that he expects Carvalho to be a Liverpool player for next season - but admitted that Jurgen Klopp will have a key role to play.

Rush argued that Klopp’s way of selling Liverpool as a project is vital to new arrivals, and used Virgil van Dijk as an example for Carvalho to potentially follow.

“It didn’t all go Liverpool’s way in the closing stages of the transfer window though as they failed to complete the signing of Fabio Carvalho from Fulham,” Rush told Gambling.com .

“It would have been nice to get that wrapped up but I believe talks are ongoing so I’m hopeful he’ll be a Liverpool player next season.

“The player and his agent are in a strong position and it all depends on what they want to get out of their next move.

“There might be more lucrative offers on the table than Liverpool’s, but are they better than the opportunity to play under Klopp? I would think not.

“One thing Klopp is brilliant at is selling the club to prospective signings. A prime example is Virgil van Dijk, who could have gone to Manchester City or Chelsea who had both won the title more recently, but he bought in to Klopp and Liverpool and now he’s a Premier League and Champions League winner.

“Liverpool fans love Van Dijk and he’s closing in on club legend territory now. Carvalho is a lot younger and the next move of his career is a crucial one.

“Liverpool is the best choice in my opinion and the prospect of going on to become a club legend will be a key selling point."

One deal Liverpool did get completed before the deadline was the signing of Luis Diaz from Porto.

The Reds signed the Colombia international in a deal worth £49million, with the player signing a five-year contract.

Rush has argued why the addition of another top forward in Liverpool’s ranks will provide Klopp with a ‘good problem’ in terms of his future team selections.

“I’m very excited about the arrival of Luis Diaz to Liverpool and can’t wait to see him in action at Anfield,” said Rush.

“Admittedly, I don’t know a whole lot about him, but from what I’ve seen there’s plenty to be enthusiastic about.

“He always stood out for Porto every time we’ve played them in the Champions League, which I’m sure caught the eye of Klopp.

“I wasn’t expecting any signings in January, but I guess Tottenham’s interest in Diaz twisted Liverpool’s arm into fast-tracking a signing they had planned to go for in the summer.

“He automatically strengthens the Liverpool squad and the competition for places up front looks very fierce, with only Mohamed Salah guaranteed a start when available.

“It’s always good for a manager to have that problem because different players suit different opposition.

“Diaz has been on international duty with Colombia this week so I’d be surprised if he makes his debut against Cardiff City at the weekend.

“How soon we’ll see him feature will all depend on how he adapts to the training. If he impresses Klopp on the training pitch, it won’t be long before we see him unleashed.”
