Fabinho admits there is a Liverpool reality he 'doesn't think about'

Fabinho has admitted Liverpool still maintain hopes of finishing inside the top four and playing in the Champions League next season.

Liverpool moved to within nine points of Newcastle United in fourth spot with a 6-1 win over Leeds United on Monday night, but three points on Saturday will close that gap to six.

The Reds have eight games remaining in the Premier League this season and will likely need to pick up maximum points while hoping for a favour from their rivals.

Fabinho, who is at risk of a two-game suspension if he picks up a yellow card, told ESPN Brazil after the win over Leeds: “The Champions League has been a very special competition for us. Since Alisson and I got here, we’ve played every year, we’ve reached two finals, we’ve won one.

“It’s a special competition for us, for the fans. The atmosphere at Anfield on a Champions League night is different. And I believe that the big clubs and the big players have to be playing in this competition all the time.

“As hard as it is, I don’t think about Liverpool not playing in the Champions League. It will be a different reality, but as long as there is hope, we will try and do our best.”
