The FA are in talks with FIFA over changing the colour of England’s shorts at this year’s Women’s World Cup, due to concerns from players about wearing white when having their periods.
The Lionesses have traditionally worn an all-white home kit, and they will do so for next month’s matches in the Arnold Clark Cup against Belgium, Italy and South Korea.
A new kit will be released before this summer’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand, however, and the FA are in talks with world football’s governing body about changing the colour of the women’s teams’ shorts.
During last summer’s Euros, players including Beth Mead and Georgia Stanway publicly raised concerns about wearing white shorts while having their periods. The FA take the matter seriously and have invested money into menstrual research.
Manchester City and West Brom’s women’s team have already switched to navy and burgundy shorts, while Wimbledon are expected to relax their all-white underwear rule for female players this year.
An FA spokesperson told Standard Sport: “We recognise the importance and want our players to feel our continued support on this matter. Their feedback will be taken into consideration for future designs.
“We will continue to work in close consultation with our partners Nike and we have appealed to international tournament organisers to keep this subject in consideration and allow for greater flexibility on kit colour combinations.”
