FA make David Moyes decision following Chelsea vs West Ham VAR criticism

The FA have reviewed David Moyes' comments following West Ham's clash with Chelsea on Saturday, where the manager criticised the match officials and VAR. It comes after a heated end to the match between the two London clubs at Stamford Bridge, following a slow start to the game.

The first half saw the Blues manage no shots on target as both teams went into the breaks goalless. The second half brought the action though, as Michail Antonio opened the scoring for the away side.

Substitute Ben Chilwell changed the game for Thomas Tuchel, scoring an equaliser late on before assisting Kai Havertz with a winner just a few minutes from time. The drama didn't stop there though, as Maxwel Cornet appeared to equalise in injury time to grab a point for the Hammers.

However, VAR official Jarred Gillett told referee Andy Madley to check the goal again for an incident just before it was scored. Jarrod Bowen appeared to clip Edouard Mendy with his trailing leg, with the goalkeeper rolling on the floor holding his shoulder in the aftermath.

The match officials saw that as reason enough to overturn the goal, something that was quite controversial in the fallout. Tuchel claimed that the decision was the right one, but Moyes unsurprisingly saw things differently with some comments after the game.

"It is a scandalous decision, absolutely rotten from one of the supposedly elite referees," Moyes told Sky Sports. "It doesn't say much about whoever sent him over from VAR as well. It is an unbelievable decision against us."

"The goalkeeper comes to take it and fumbles it out of his hands," Moyes said in his post-match press conference. "Then he acted as if it was a shoulder injury. I'm amazed that VAR sent the referee to the screen. It was a ridiculously bad decision.

"Today there is no excuse for that not to be a goal, none whatsoever. The sad thing is that this is the level of our elite refereeing at the moment.

"They've got new people in charge who are trying to do something. I've lost faith in them today in the people who are putting up for VAR. After watching it, I can't see how the goal was not given. The referees said they were going to cut back on soft challenges and that was unbelievably soft.

"Referees can make mistakes. I do not see that in a million years. I'm more embarrassed for the guy in VAR than the referee because that's telling me someone who doesn't understand football and shouldn't be near the game if that is enough to put someone near the screen."

In the aftermath of those comments, the FA have investigated the comments, according to The Times reporter Tom Roddy. He states that the decision was made that the comments did not reach the threshold necessary for disciplinary action.
