FA launch investigation into suspicious betting patterns after Arsenal FA Cup win vs Oxford

The Football Association (FA) will launch an investigation into suspicious betting patterns surrounding Arsenal’s FA Cup win at Oxford on Monday night, the PA news agency understands. The Gunners will face Manchester City in the FA Cup fourth round thanks to Mohamed Elneny’s header and Eddie Nketiah’s brace.

Arsenal were left frustrated in the first half before finding their rhythm later in the match as they eventually cruised to victory. The north London outfit continued their unbeaten run in all competitions and have lost just three matches all season.

One Oxford player was shown a yellow card during the second half of the match after committing a foul, which turned out to be the only booking in the match. PA understands that the FA are aware of the matter and have launched an investigation.

The match saw the return of Emile Smith Rowe after he successfully recovered from surgery to correct an issue with his groin. The England international revealed after the match that the injury had been a problem for a number of years, but declared himself over the issue as he looks to help the Gunners in the second half of the season.

Fans feared the worst when they saw Bukayo Saka limp off with what seemed to be a potential injury. Mikel Arteta eased worries after the match, however, by revealing that the 21-year-old will be "fine" ahead of the North London Derby with Tottenham on Sunday.
