Max Verstappen goes into this evening’s race at the Qatar Grand Prix as a three-time world champion.
Second in Saturday’s sprint race was enough for the Dutchman to take the championship for a third consecutive year, an outcome that has been inevitable from almost the first race of the season.
Verstappen will start the race in Qatar on pole, with the Mercedes duo of George Russell and Lewis Hamilton behind him.
Oscar Piastri, who won the sprint race to continue what has been a superb weekend for the McLaren driver is seventh on the grid, while Verstappen’s Red Bull team-mate Sergio Perez is back in 13th as his frustrations grow.
