A previously unknown admission made by Lewis Hamilton has sensationally emerged as Ferrari aim to land the world's most famous Formula One driver.
The Daily Mail state the legendary brand will offer the chance for the 38-year-old to secure an eighth world championship in the iconic red of the Italian giants. It had long been assumed Hamilton would finish his glittering racing career with Mercedes, however, an unearthed statement from the Englishman appears to add doubt to that long-standing belief.
It's understood Ferrari team president John Elkann is involved in talks surrounding Hamilton and the a deal to pay him £40m to join his great rivals is in the offing. Rival Max Verstappen is on the verge of securing world title No.3 and Hamilton will be keen to open up further daylight before he retires from F1. And that was reflected in an interview which bubbled under the radar earlier this year. Hamilton said: "I thought about and watched the Ferrari drivers on the screens at the track and of course you wonder what it would be like to be in red."
But Hamilton did move to clarify he remained committed to Mercedes, however, that was before the gargantuan offer was presented to him. He added: "But then I go to my team, to Mercedes, and this is my home. I'm happy where I am. I haven't signed a contract yet, but we are working on one."
