Is that the smell of change in the air at Monza? What felt like a wobble has turned into a full scale crisis for Max Verstappen and Red Bull, with Lando Norris getting the chance at Sunday's Italian Grand Prix to close the gap even further at the top of the Drivers' Championship leaderboard.
The Brit sat on pole after a dominant qualifying session on Saturday, with Verstappen managing only a lowly 7th. That's a lot of cars starting between them, with the dual McLarens at the front looking to exploit their sheer speed on the lengthy straights of the Autodromo Nazionale di Monza (to give the circuit its full name).
Verstappen really needed to get ahead of Lewis Hamilton, Carlos Sainz Jnr, Charles Leclerc and George Russell quickly if he wanted to try and upset the McLarens of Norris and Oscar Piastri.
Further down the grid, 21-year-old Argentinian Franco Colapinto made his Formula 1 debut, having replaced the pointless Logan Sargeant at Williams.

Autodromo Nazionale Monza has been an essential stop on the Formula 1 calendar for over 70 years. Known as ‘La Pista Magica’ to locals, cars are on full throttle for 80% of the lap, maxing out at 230 mph on the circuit’s 1.1km start/finish straight.
Unsurprisingly, Ferrari are the most successful team at Monza, having won the Italian Grand Prix 19 times. Their most recent win was with Monegasque driver Charles Leclerc in 2019.
