The Orange Army were in fine voice and had been cheering along their champion Max Verstappen all weekend, but Lando Norris was doing his best to ruin the party by taking pole at the Circuit Zandvoort and the 2024 Dutch Grand Prix.
Norris is Verstappen's closest competition on the leaderboard and the most likely to stop the champ from driving his way to a fourth successive championship. That outcome still feels somewhat inevitable with the Dutchman's 78-point cushion coming into this weekend, but a win for the McLaren driver on Sunday would feel like a significant victory in context of the season.
Those two shared the front row of the grid, with Oscar Piastri and George Russell behind. They'd both had wins in recent races, and had their own goals to upset the applecart. Brit Lewis Hamilton was the big loser from qualifying, unable to progress to Q3.

Dutch Grand Prix circuit
The 2024 Dutch Grand Prix takes place over 44 laps of the 7.004-kilometre Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps on Sunday, August 25.
Fast and challenging, Circuit Zandvoort is an 'old school' track that was originally a mixture of racing track and public roads that snaked through the sand dunes of the Dutch holiday resort of Zandvoort.
Many Formula 1 drivers, including three-time World Champion Max Verstappen, raced at Zandvoort. during their junior category days, and are familiar with the track's swooping corners and insane bumps.
The circuit was modernized ahead of F1’s 2020 return, including cranking up the banking angle at the Tarzan corner to a shocking 18 degrees — steeper banking than the Indianapolis Motor Speedway!
