F1: Christian Horner explains why Red Bull will not be signing Lewis Hamilton

Red Bull have no plans to drop Max Verstappen or Sergio Perez even if Lewis Hamilton was to become available in the near future.

That is according to team boss Christian Horner, who has outlined the Formula One world champions’ commitment to their current drivers after a strong start to the 2023 season.

Horner told Sky: “What Lewis has achieved in F1 is second to none but we're very happy with the drivers that we have.

“They're committed as a pair not only this season but the next season as well. So, I can't see where we would be able to accommodate Lewis.”

Talk of Hamilton, 38, quitting Mercedes for a shot at an eighth F1 world title with a new team has been sparked by another lacklustre start to the campaign by his the German marque.

Toto Wolff is confident of keeping the Brit for the time being but admitted last weekend that the clock is ticking on him being able to persuade Hamilton to stay long-term.

“If he wants to win another championship, he needs to make sure that he has the car,” Wolff said. “And if we cannot demonstrate that we’re able to give him a car in the next couple of years, then he needs to look everywhere.

“I don’t think he’s doing it at that stage, but I will have no grouch if that happens in a year or two.”
