F1: Adrian Newey set to snub Lewis Hamilton link-up after being blown away by Aston Martin offer

Adrian Newey is set to turn down the advances of Ferrari and the lure of working with Lewis Hamilton to instead join Aston Martin for next season.

Newey has long been tipped for a switch to Ferrari with what is seen as the last move of the 65-year-old’s illustrious career in Formula 1.

But he has since been lured to Aston Martin with the lure of a £20million-a-year contract at the team’s new state-of-the-art base just by Silverstone, the home of the British Grand Prix.

Newey has had no shortage of suitors for his services since announcing his shock departure from Red Bull, a team he will leave at the beginning of next year.

Ferrari had long been favourites for his signature amid excitement of a tie-in with Hamilton, while there had also been lengthy talks with McLaren and Williams, teams where Newey had previously enjoyed success in the sport.

But the man behind some of the greatest cars in F1 history is believed to have been blown away on a tour of Aston’s growing operation under billionaire owner Lawrence Stroll.

And Newey, whose switch is expected to be made official this week, sees Aston as a mirror of Red Bull Racing in its infancy, which he helped turn into a sporting behemoth.
