Lando Norris topped Friday’s action for McLaren ahead of the Formula 1 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. Here’s how and when to watch qualifying.

The British driver led a McLaren 1-2 at the end of FP2 as his team looks to clinch the world constructors’ title at the 2024 season finale, having come into this weekend with a 21-point advantage over Ferrari.

Although he set the pace in FP1, Charles Leclerc’s day was dampened by a 10-place grid penalty for Sunday's race after requiring a battery change outside of his allocation. The Ferrari driver ended second practice down in sixth place.

Beginning his final weekend for Ferrari, Carlos Sainz took fourth, fractionally behind Haas driver Nico Hulkenberg in third. Lewis Hamilton's Mercedes split the Ferrari pair in fifth.

Meanwhile, it was a tough Friday for Red Bull. Sergio Perez was 14th and world champion Max Verstappen 17th, the Dutchman having struggled for balance with the RB20 after sitting out FP1 for Formula 2 title contender Isack Hadjar.

Jack Doohan, who is making his F1 debut at Alpine this weekend after replacing Esteban Ocon, was 19th in the FP2 classification.

What time does qualifying start for the F1 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix?

Qualifying for the Abu Dhabi GP starts at 6:00pm local time (2:00pm GMT), using the regular Q1, Q2 and Q3 knockout session format.

How can I watch Formula 1?

In the United Kingdom Formula 1 is broadcast live on Sky Sports, except for the British GP which is shown live on both Sky Sports and Channel 4, with highlights shown on Channel 4 several hours after the race has finished. Live streaming through NOW is also available in the UK.

Sky Sports F1, which broadcasts the F1 races, can be added as part of the Sky Sports channels which costs £18 a month for new customers. Sky Sports can also be accessed through NOW with a one-off day payment of £11.99p or a month membership of £34.99p per month.

How can I watch F1 Abu Dhabi GP qualifying?

In the United Kingdom every F1 practice, qualifying and race is broadcast live on Sky Sports F1, with Abu Dhabi GP qualifying coverage starting at 1:15pm GMT on Sky Sports F1.

When can I watch the highlights of F1 Abu Dhabi GP qualifying?

In the United Kingdom Channel 4 is broadcasting highlights of qualifying for the Abu Dhabi GP at 5:45pm GMT on Saturday afternoon. The full programme will run for 90 minutes, covering both qualifying and wrapping up the major talking points of the race weekend so far.

For the entire 2024 F1 season, Channel 4 will broadcast highlights of every qualifying and race of each event. The highlights will also be available on Channel 4’s on demand catch up services.
