'Extremely excited' - Gustavo Scarpa breaks silence on Nottingham Forest transfer

Gustavo Scarpa has opened up on his imminent move to Nottingham Forest after leading Palmeiras to league success this season.

The Brazilian midfielder signed pre-contract with Forest in the summer but has been focused on helping Palmeiras in his final year at the club. Abel Ferreira's side were crowned champions of the Brasileirao league by a distance - sitting 11 points clear of Internacional with two games left.

The 28-year-old has made 209 appearances for Palmeiras in his four-year stint with the Sao Paulo-based side. This season he contributed 14 assists and six goals in 33 outings as Ferreira's men claimed their 11th league title.

With his contract officially set to expire on New Year's Eve, he claimed Palmeiras offered much improved terms in a bid to keep him at the club but he stood by his dream of playing in the Premier League.

Speaking about his move to the City Ground, Scarpa said: "It is a dream that will come true. I think it's cool to make dreams come true, because that inner child is still alive in me.

"I'm very happy, very excited. I know it's going to be difficult because of the Premier League itself but also because of Nottingham Forest's current situation. But I'm extremely excited."

Asked about whether he felt he was a complete player, the Brazilian added: "I wouldn't say I'm a complete player. I have a some things to improve on, but the advantage is that I am always willing to improve.

"I still have a lot to learn, some technical things. I'm not very good at headers, I use my right leg well but it's not the same quality as my left leg."

With the Brazilian season set to end next weekend, Scarpa could soon travel to England to begin his career with Forest, having agreed to a three-and-a-half-year contract.
