The extreme wind storm that has been causing havoc in the Los Angeles area is finally starting to calm down. The strongest winds, which peaked during the morning hours, have begun to subside, providing some relief to the region.
Earlier on Wednesday, winds over the fires in the Santa Monica and San Gabriel Mountains were gusting from 60 to 80 mph. However, the latest reports indicate that these winds have decreased to gusts ranging from 25 to 45 mph. While the winds are still strong and contributing to the spread of fires, the reduction in peak wind speeds has allowed firefighting aircraft to resume their operations.
The National Weather Service had issued a “Particularly Dangerous Situation” fire danger warning for Los Angeles and Ventura Counties, which is set to expire at 4 p.m. local time today. Additionally, the high wind warning is scheduled to expire at 6 p.m. local time, signaling a gradual improvement in weather conditions.
Looking ahead, tomorrow is expected to bring critical fire danger (level 2 of 3) from Santa Barbara to San Diego. However, the forecast indicates that the winds will be notably weaker compared to the intense gusts experienced on Tuesday and Wednesday.
