Firefighters in Los Angeles County are facing a challenging night ahead as extreme wind conditions are expected to worsen, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department. Capt. Sheila Kelliher has issued a warning about the difficult terrain and unpredictable winds that are creating a formidable battle for the firefighters.
Kelliher emphasized the erratic nature of the wind, which constantly changes direction and poses a significant challenge for firefighting efforts. She described the wind as strong and unpredictable, making it difficult to anticipate the fire's behavior.
One of the key challenges faced by firefighters is the swirling and tornado-like columns of fire that are being fueled by the high winds. Kelliher recounted a moment when she had to regain her balance as the strong wind nearly knocked her over while observing a burning hillside.

According to Kelliher, the current conditions represent a 'perfect storm' scenario, with low relative humidity, high gusty winds, low fuel moisture, lack of rain, and excessive fuel growth over the past three years contributing to a once-in-a-decade wind event.
The combination of these factors has created a highly volatile situation that requires firefighters to remain vigilant and adaptable in their response efforts. As they continue to battle the blaze, firefighters are relying on their training and expertise to navigate the challenging conditions and protect lives and property in the affected areas.
