Extinction Rebellion protesters have already begun demonstrations at Tower Bridge, with further action scheduled to take place over the next week.
The group, who are campaigning for the end of all fossil fuel use, have planned events to take place from 9 April to the 17 April across London.
Here’s everything you need to know ahead of the action.
What is Extinction Rebellion?
Extinction Rebellion is a protest group that puts “civil disobedience” at the heart of seeking government action on its aims.
Extinction Rebellion said: “We promote civil disobedience and rebellion because we think it is necessary. We are asking people to find their courage and to collectively do what is necessary to bring about change.
“We aren’t focused on traditional systems like petitions or writing to our MPs and more likely to take risks (e.g. arrest / jail time).
“We don’t want or need everyone to get arrested – for some this is not a good idea – but we do want everyone involved to support civil disobedience as a tool.”
Why are Extinction Rebellion protesting?
The fossil fuel industry has so much blood on its hands, and so does every government that subsidises it.

Extinction Rebellion are taking to the streets of London in an attempt to disrupt the fossil fuel industry.
They said: “In April, Extinction Rebellion has joined forces with other movements to block oil facilities around the UK until the government agrees to our immediate demand: stop all new fossil fuel investments immediately.
“Standing in solidarity with all people around the world who are defending their lives, land, wildlife and cultures in the face of the crisis, we will cause maximum material disruption and tell the story of the fossil fuelled corruption at the heart of our democracy.
“Now we need everyone to flood the street of London from 9 April and make meeting the immediate demand politically unavoidable.”
