Extension to petrol filling station kiosk building in Kilmarnock approved by East Ayrshire Council

East Ayrshire Council has granted planning permission for a proposed Electric Vehicle (EV) charging hub, retail kiosk extension, the formation of car parking spaces and jet wash bays at the Q8 Filling Station in Kilmarnock.

The approval was given with conditions, including that the development should be commenced within three years from the date of the planning permission.

The proposed scheme will see the area to the south of the forecourt developed for use as EV charging points. Eight of these in total will be installed, all with new parking spaces and beneath a singular new canopy to be erected over the spaces.

Each space will have a single charging stand with a capacity for one vehicle each. The upstands will be 150kW rated, capable of fully charging a vehicle in an average time of around 40 minutes.

New jet wash facilities will be sited on the southeast of the site, with three new dedicated bays with glazed enclosures being formed. This will include a wash separator to treat jet wash runoff. Customer parking will be formed opposite the EV charging hub, with six new parking spaces formed.

The application also proposes an extension to the retail kiosk, approximately 91sqm, to be sited on the west elevation of the building. This will enable the formation of a new food-to-go area within the extended building, from which food will be sold for consumption off the premises.

Food will be brought in chilled or frozen and warmed up on the premises. No open cooking or from-scratch food preparation will take place on the site.

The design of the proposed installation was considered to be acceptable within the context of an existing filling station and the proposal was not considered to have a negative visual impact on the area.
