‘Extend it ASAP!’ - Man City fans send Ilkay Gundogan message after record-breaking FA Cup final goal

Manchester City fans are begging Ilkay Gundogan to sign a new contract after scoring the fastest-ever FA Cup final goal against Manchester United.

The midfielder found the net after just 12 seconds, looping the ball past a frozen David de Gea to give the Blues the best start possible. The German’s future at City is uncertain with the playmaker out of contract at the end of the season.

City fans are urging the club captain to stay after a notable uptick in form in recent weeks. Gundogan netted four goals and an assist in his final three Premier League games, lifting the trophy in front of the Etihad crowd a fortnight ago.

His FA Cup final strike brought up double figures for the 32-year-old this season, making him the fifth-joint highest scorer for the Blues this season. It was his fifth strike in his last six outings.

Gundogan has chalked up more than 300 appearances for City since his arrival in 2016. Pep Guardiola has outlined how he hopes the 2019 FA Cup winner will stay but has admitted he too is not certain on his future.

City fans are imploring Gundogan to pen a new deal at the club and extend his seven-year stay. Many took to Twitter to react to his quick strike, immediately asking him to sign a renewal after coming up trumps for the club in recent weeks and on the big stage.
