The in-fighting at Reform UK has just gone nuclear, with suspended MP Richard Lowe lodging a formal complaint against party leader Nigel Farage. Lowe, who’s currently sitting as an independent after being booted from the Reform benches, has taken his grievances all the way to the Parliamentary Commissioner for Standards, accusing Farage of bringing Parliament into disrepute.
It’s just the latest twist in a bitter fallout that started when Reform received complaints from two female staffers alleging serious bullying. A senior barrister, Jacqueline Perry KC, was brought in to investigate and later released a report stating there was “credible evidence” of harassment involving Lowe and two men from his constituency team, reported the Express.
Lowe has denied any wrongdoing from the outset, claiming he and his staff are being unfairly targeted. In a post on X, he slammed the party for “shamefully attacking my innocent staff to smear my name,” adding, “This is not right. It’s unprecedented in modern British politics.”
Things got even messier when the party chose to publish the report, despite pushback from Lowe, who claims he wasn’t given a fair shot at responding before it went public. The report named members of his staff, which Lowe says has left them reeling from “unfounded and shameful allegations.”
In response, a Reform source didn’t mince words. “Nothing changes the contents of the report. There is credible evidence he harassed women,” they said. “The report was damning and clearly called out his many, many, many lies on social media.”
The report also pointed to a deeper cultural issue, saying Lowe had either failed or outright refused to address what Perry described as “toxic conduct” among the men working for him. Her recommendation? Reform should be “quite strict” in making sure party members understand Parliament’s rules around bullying and the 2010 Equality Act.
That might be easier said than done. With Lowe now going after Farage and accusing the party of mishandling the whole situation, Reform looks more divided than ever.
The Parliamentary Commissioner for Standards will now decide whether to launch a full investigation into Lowe’s complaint. But one thing’s already clear—this internal war is spilling way beyond the party’s walls and into the heart of Westminster.
