A series of explosions occurred on three parked buses in Bat Yam, Israel, causing alarm in the central region. Fortunately, no injuries were reported in what authorities suspect was a militant attack. The explosions took place on a day marked by mourning as Hamas returned the bodies of four hostages from Gaza as part of a ceasefire agreement. While reminiscent of bombings from the Palestinian uprising in the 2000s, such attacks are now rare.
Explosives were discovered on two additional buses but failed to detonate, according to police spokesman Asi Aharoni. The five bombs found were identical, equipped with timers, and bomb squads were working to defuse the unexploded devices. Investigators in protective gear combed through the charred remains of the buses, which exploded in a Bat Yam parking lot.
Mayor Tzvika Brot expressed gratitude that no one was harmed, noting that the buses were parked after completing their routes. The bus company conducted thorough inspections before resuming services, ensuring the safety of passengers. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was briefed on the situation, with the Shin Bet internal security agency leading the investigation.

Authorities are working to determine if a single suspect or multiple individuals were involved in placing explosives on the buses. The explosives used were said to match those used in the West Bank, though specific details were not disclosed. Israel's military has been conducting operations in the West Bank following recent hostilities in Gaza, leading to heightened security measures.
A group claiming affiliation with Hamas' military wing issued a statement vowing retribution for fallen members, though they did not claim responsibility for the bus explosions. Tulkarem and surrounding areas have been a focal point of Israeli military actions in the West Bank post-ceasefire. Restrictions on Palestinian movement and heightened security measures have been implemented in response.
Despite the incident, Mayor Brot encouraged residents to maintain their routines while remaining vigilant. Schools will be open, and public transport will operate as usual in Bat Yam. The situation continues to develop as authorities investigate the circumstances surrounding the bus explosions.
