Explosions In Lebanon Kill Multiple, Injure Hundreds In Hezbollah Attack

Funeral ceremony of the casualties of the Islamic State attack in Kerman

Tragedy struck Lebanon on Tuesday as a series of explosions from handheld pagers rocked the country, resulting in numerous casualties and injuries. According to Hezbollah officials, the blasts appeared to target their members.

Reports from Lebanon's news agency indicated that the handheld pagers were detonated using sophisticated technology, causing widespread damage in Beirut's southern suburbs and other areas. The health minister confirmed at least eight fatalities and around 2,800 individuals wounded in the incident.

Among the injured was Iran's ambassador in Lebanon, highlighting the severity of the situation. Sources revealed that the pagers were being carried by Hezbollah members, with a security source describing the event as a significant breach of security during the ongoing conflict with Israel.

While Hezbollah pointed fingers at Israel for the attack, the Israeli government refrained from making any statements. Images and videos circulating on social media depicted the aftermath of the explosions, showing individuals with injuries sustained from the blasts.

Hezbollah officials disclosed that several hundred people suffered injuries across various parts of Lebanon due to the explosions. The organization confirmed the deaths of two fighters and a young girl in the blasts, with the girl being identified as the 9-year-old daughter of a Hezbollah member.

Hezbollah stated that an investigation was underway to determine the cause of the explosions, as the nation grapples with the aftermath of the tragic event. The incident occurred amidst escalating tensions between Lebanon and Israel, with Hezbollah and Israeli forces engaging in frequent clashes over the past 11 months amid broader conflicts in the region.
