An explosion outside Brazil’s Supreme Court in the capital of Brasilia has resulted in the tragic death of one person and forced the evacuation of the justices and staff from the building. The incident occurred at approximately 7:30 p.m. local time, shortly after Wednesday's session had concluded.
According to police reports, an explosive device detonated outside the court premises, leading to the fatality. Local firefighters confirmed the death of one individual at the scene, although the person's identity has not been disclosed.
Footage from local media indicated that there were two separate explosions outside the court, with a 20-second interval between them. The justices of the Supreme Court were able to safely exit the building following the incident.
President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, who was not present at the neighboring presidential palace during the blast, was unharmed. Security measures were promptly implemented, with police blocking access to the area where the Supreme Court, Congress, and presidential palace are situated.
Additionally, an earlier explosion was reported outside Brazil's Congress, although it did not result in any significant damages. The presidential security bureau initiated a thorough sweep of the grounds surrounding the presidential palace as a precautionary measure.
The authorities are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding these explosions to determine the motives and individuals responsible for these acts of violence.
