
An explosion was reported near the PVR cinema hall in northwest Delhi’s Prashant Vihar area around 11.48 am today, said reports citing the Delhi Fire Services. No casualties have been reported so far.
“We received a call regarding a blast in Prashant Vihar area at 11.48 a.m. We rushed four fire tenders on the spot. Our teams are following rest of the details,” the Delhi Fire Service said.
The police also reached the spot and a team from the Special Cell of Delhi police is investigating the matter.

India Today reported an explosion near “the boundary wall of a park” adjoining a sweet shop. India Today also quoted the police as saying a “white powder-like substance was found”.
While few details were immediately available, media reports noted a blast had “triggered panic in the same area” last month, when a blast took place near the CRPF school in Prashant Vihar. There were no casualties, but NDTV reported that a “similar powdery substance was found at the site of the school blast.”.

Earlier today, Aam Aadmi Party chief Arvind Kejriwal had described Delhi as “the most unsafe capital in the world”. Speaking at a press conference, the former Delhi chief minister hit out at home minister Amit Shah, saying: “What’s happening in Delhi? Would he agree that he is unable to manage Delhi? Who should the people of Delhi turn to for security? Do women feel safe in Delhi?
