People living in parts of Merseyside were woken up by a "loud bang" which was said to have sounded like an "explosion" during the early hours of the morning.
Heard in Garston, Speke, Aigburth and even Penny Lane, residents reported hearing the strange noise at around 1am. Many people were quick to ask their local Facebook community groups to ask what it could have been.
But no-one seemed to have the answers, with some suggesting a "controlled explosion" while others said it may have been "airport runway works" or even "thunder". One woman heard it around 3am when she said it woken their household up, including their dog that "flew out of bed".

One person said: "It was loud whatever it was" as another said it may have been an "earthquake". Another resident said there was a "huge boom" and an "explosion" at around 1am as one said they thought it was railway works.
However, a spokesperson for Merseyside Police said the force has not been made aware of any incidents involving loud bangs on Tuesday morning.
