Exploding propane tank hits car on M60 after vehicle bursts into flames

Drivers had a lucky escape after a vehicle burst into flames sending an exploding propane tank into nearby traffic on the M60. The blaze erupted on an asphalt wagon at junction 16 on the motorway.

The driver of the work vehicle noticed the flames and pulled over to the hard shoulder and exited the vehicle before the fire took hold. But before fire crews could reach the scene, some of the propane cylinders exploded with one being fired into the embankment.

One tank burst across the carriageway where it hit a Nissan Qashqai in lane 3 causing serious damage to the body of the car at the passenger side. North West Motorway Police confirmed the driver of the stricken motor managed to keep control of the vehicle and brought it to a stop without hitting any other traffic.
