Explained: ‘Pro-BJP’, regional better than national – what journalists think of the media

The Indian media landscape has been riddled with bias, declining press freedom, and dipping public trust. These are deemed as ‘tough times’ for media companies. But what about Indian journalists?

At least 70 percent of media personnel in India suffer from mental health issues because of job-related stress, political bias in media houses or job insecurities, as per the latest Lokniti-CSDS report. The report titled ‘Media in India: Trends and Patterns’ also underlined that 82 percent of journalists think their media organisations support the incumbent Bharatiya Janata Party.

Newslaundry divulges the findings of the report, particularly focusing on the challenges ahead of the digital news landscape, incidents of online harassment and the journalists’ fear of disseminating fake news.

The data from the report also reveals that a staggering number of journalists are contemplating a shift in careers, raising questions over the future trajectory of the industry, and its role in shaping public information.
