Explained: Nottingham Forest's £115m Premier League cash boost as season ends

Nottingham Forest will pocket a cash boost of almost £115 million as a result of the 2022/23 Premier League season, according to a new report.

The financial benefits of competing in the top-flight, as well as retaining that status, have been set out in findings by the Daily Mail which take into account Premier League central funds and prize cash. And the rewards for the Reds are quite significant as they look to establish themselves among the elite.

The money comes from equal shares of domestic and overseas TV cash split among the 20 clubs, differing amounts of domestic and overseas cash based on merit (i.e. finishing position), ‘facility’ fee which increases the more a team has appeared in a televised live game in the UK and a share of the league’s commercial income.

Each club receives £31.8m from domestic TV cash and £48.9m from overseas TV cash, plus £6.8m as a share of the league’s commercial income. For Forest, the remainder of their total £114.1m boost is made up of £14m from live TV games, £12.7m facility fee, £8.1m merit money and £5.9m overseas cash based on merit.

That total sum pales in comparison to that pocketed by champions Manchester City, however. They will benefit to the tune of £165.7m, which is said to be a record high for any winner of England’s top-flight as this term incorporates a batch of improved overseas TV contracts.

Total cash boost for each club, according to the Daily Mail (as calculated prior to the final round of fixtures):

Manchester City - £165.7m

Arsenal - £162.2m

Newcastle United - £158.6m

Manchester United - £156.8m

Liverpool - £155.7m

Tottenham Hotspur - £145.1m

Brighton and Hove Albion - £142.1m

Aston Villa - £141.1m

Chelsea - £133.4m

Brentford - £133.1m

Crystal Palace - £128.5m

West Ham United - £125.4m

Wolverhampton Wanderers - £120.6m

Everton - £116.5m

Bournemouth - £115.2m

Nottingham Forest - £114.1m

Leicester City - £111.2m

Leeds United - £110.2m

Southampton - £102.5m
