This week, Newslaundry and The News Minute published a joint investigation uncovering how in 2003 decorated IPS officer Kiran Bedi used Delhi police to run a four month-long surveillance operation on her daughter Saina Bedi and her then partner Gopal Suri.
Bedi suspected the couple of running an unethical visa business, leveraging her profile and that of India Vision Foundation – an NGO founded by the police officer in 1994.
Importantly, a senior police officer, who was part of the surveillance operation, also stumbled upon a possible lead about the sexual assault of a Swiss diplomat in 2003. But this lead was never communicated to those investigating the assault.
Kiran Bedi has justified all her actions as that of a “concerned mother”.
We combed through hundreds of mails and hours of tapes to uncover how power and influence was used to settle a sordid personal affair.
We unpack key findings from our subscriber-exclusive investigation in this video.
