Jason Cundy wants to know why Jurgen Klopp can't be sacked after Thomas Tuchel Chelsea exit

Former Chelsea defender Jason Cundy believes there is no reason why Jurgen Klopp can’t be sacked following Thomas Tuchel’s departure from Stamford Bridge.

The German has left Stamford Bridge just seven matches into the new season, following a 1-0 defeat by Dinamo Zagreb in the Champions League on Tuesday night. Tuchel was appointed by Chelsea in January 2021 and had an immediate impact, winning the Champions League in his first season at the club.

Chelsea then reached both the FA Cup and Carabao Cup final as they secured a third place finish in the Premier League last season. However, following a defeat to Dinamo Zagreb in the Champions League on Tuesday night, Tuchel was sacked the following morning.

Speaking after his side’s 4-1 Champions League defeat to Napoli, Klopp admitted he did not fear the sack from Liverpool owners, Fenway Sports Group, as his bosses are a lot more measured than Chelsea's own American proprietor Todd Boehly.

He said: "Not really, but who knows? The difference is we have different kinds of owners. Ours are more calm and expect me to sort it and not think that someone else will. That's how they see it. The day they change their thoughts they might tell me."

But speaking on talkSPORT on Wednesday night, Cundy believes given the positions of Chelsea and Liverpool, there is no reason why Klopp can’t be sacked by Fenway Sports Group.

He said: “When a player plays badly, yes the player has got to take responsibility, but when a team plays badly, it just makes me laugh, everyone is laughing at Chelsea about sacking Tuchel yet Liverpool are worse than Chelsea at the minute, right here, right now.

“Tuchel has been sacked, why can’t Klopp be sacked? Explain that to me? Tuchel has won the Champions League 18 months ago, less than that. King of Europe!”
