Experts list latest festival ticket scams to watch out and how to avoid them

Festival season is underway with Wireless taking place this weekend and the likes of Beyonce, Harry Styles and Taylor Swift going on tour. But as fun as the summer can be when attending your favourite events, it can also be a nightmare if you're not careful.

Knowing how to spot a scam is crucial when booking tickets online, whether for sports, theatre or music. Fake tickets are very prevalent online and buyers should keep an eye out for sneaky tricks and cons that could cost them big.

The experts at VegasSlotsOnline have listed the latest scams festival-goers need to be aware of when buying tickets this season. They urge people that whenever possible, buy tickets directly from the event organiser, the venue, or an authorised ticket vendor.

Five tips on avoiding ticket scams this festival season

1. Buy Directly from Official Sources:

Always buy tickets from reputable sources, such as official venue websites, box offices, or recognized ticket-selling platforms. Be wary of third-party sellers or private individuals offering tickets for sale. Companies such as Ticketmaster provide a ticket resale service directly from their website.

2. Check Website Security:

Ensure that the website you're purchasing tickets from has a secure connection, indicated by an 'https' at the beginning of the URL. This ensures that your personal and financial information is encrypted and secure.

3. Beware of 'Too Good to be True' Deals:

If a deal seems too good to be true, it probably is. Scammers often lure victims by offering tickets at unbelievably low prices. Always verify the authenticity of the tickets and the seller.

4. Understand the Refund Policy:

Before purchasing, familiarise yourself with the seller's refund policy. Legitimate ticket sellers typically offer a clear refund policy for events that are cancelled or postponed.

5. Use Secure Payment Methods:

Always use secure payment methods, such as credit cards, which offer better protection against fraud compared to other methods like wire transfers or cash.

According to founder and CEO of StarTickets Ken Serenitee: "Scammers are becoming increasingly sophisticated, but by following these tips and using a bit of common sense, consumers can protect themselves and ensure that their online ticket purchasing experience is a positive one."
