A royal expert has warned that Kate Middleton "could end up paying a high price" when Prince Harry releases his tell-all memoir next week.
Spare is due for release next Tuesday (January 10) and “raw, unflinching honesty” has been promised by publishers Penguin Random House, as well as "revelation, self-examination, and hard-won wisdom".
Sources have claimed that Prince William and Kate are the royals in the firing line of the book, with King Charles receiving less criticism.
Royal commentator Daniela Elser says the Duke of Sussex's “raw, unflinching honesty" could prove to be a "nightmare" for the Princess of Wales.
A reluctance in royal circles to respond to Harry's book could make the coming weeks particularly tough, Daniela said, while a royal insider believes Spare could end any hopes of William and Harry repairing their relationship.
A royal insider told The Sunday Times: "Generally, I think the book [will be] worse for them than the Royal Family is expecting.
“Everything is laid bare. Charles comes out of it better than I had expected, but it’s tough on William, in particular, and even Kate gets a bit of a broadside.
"There are these minute details, and a description of the fight between the brothers. I personally can’t see how Harry and William will be able to reconcile after this."
The Daily Star reported that Elser, writing for news.com.au, explained the release of the book would be a "particularly hard experience" for Kate.
She said: "For Kate, right now, watching her formerly close brother-in-law on the cusp of yet another offensive, and with not only her husband reportedly in his sights but her too, must be a particularly hard experience, not least because there is nothing they can do.
"Unlike in the wake of Harry and Meghan's Oprah interview, when we got the now-iconic 'recollections may vary' statement, so far, Buckingham and Kensington Palaces have assiduously refused to comment on the Sussexes' broadsides.
"The way things look today, there may well be more discomfort and sadness for William and Kate to come."
