Expert predicts a baby boom in North Wales in nine months

Wrexham FCs historic promotion could kick off a baby boom in the local area reminiscent of other birthing phenomena sparked by sporting success, according to a leading Sex & Relationships expert.

Previous "Baby booms" off the back of a sports teams' success have been well documented, and Jessica Leoni, Sex & Relationships expert at Illicitencounters.com, thinks Wrexham's Hollywood fairytale could produce the same outcome.

"A baby boom following a euphoric sporting moment is a well investigated subject matter and there's genuine reason to believe this phenomenon could now happen in North-East Wales.

"Barcelona FC had the "Iniesta Generation" - this could be the "Ryan and Rob Generation" in Wrexham, Leoni said.

A British Medical Journal report uncovered that in 2009, Spanish researchers reported Andres Iniesta's last-minute goal for Barcelona against Chelsea to earn them a Champions League Final spot resulted in fireworks in the bedroom too - 9 months later a survey of 5 hospitals found a 45% birth-rate increase.

Similar events have occurred across the world. In New Zealand, it was reported that hospitals were overflowing with women in labour - 9 months on from the Kiwis stunning Rugby World Cup victory against France. And there's anecdotal evidence of the "Red Sox Phenomenon" of 2005 - where baby clothes flew off the shelves 9 months after the Boston Red Sox beat the St. Louis Cardinals.

Leoni said: "A major euphoric moment like Wrexham's promotion can trigger hedonistic behaviour and feelings. Couple this with alcohol and a close-knit community that have been emotionally invested in Wrexham's incredible journey, then you have a perfect climate for intimate celebrations - that could cause a spike in birthrates in 9 months' time.

"There's no doubting the impact celebrity owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney have had on Wrexham, and their impact could well spill over into the bedroom - and the maternity ward too."
