Here are your Manchester United evening headlines for Sunday, May 8.
Rutten rejects United job under Ten Hag
Efforts are already under way ahead of the summer to put together Erik ten Hag’s support team at Old Trafford. The current Ajax boss is of course just a matter of weeks away from officially becoming the new United boss, having had his appointment confirmed last month.
Plenty of names have been linked with positions in the backroom staff, with the likes of Steve McClaren, Rene Meulensteen and Robin van Persie all being touted as possible coaches for the Reds next season. Mitchell van der Gaag, currently assistant at Ajax, is expected to join Ten Hag, although United are yet to finalise terms on that deal.

It seems there was another name in the running to join the Reds’ new-look coaching team. Former PSV Eindhoven and Schalke boss Fred Rutten has claimed he was also asked by Ten Hag to become one of his assistants, only for the 59-year-old to turn down the offer.
Rangnick could give the Glazers their worst nightmare this month
Ralf Rangnick’s spell as United interim manager is near its end, and it’s fair to say it hasn’t gone the way anyone at Old Trafford would have hoped. The German’s appointment was certainly an experiment – and one that has gone wrong for the Reds.
But while Rangnick has failed in delivering results and performances, there has been an air of appreciation among fans for his outspoken nature in interviews and press conferences. The 63-year-old has certainly not shied away from giving his honest thoughts on the multitude of issues currently at the club.
With just one game remaining now, and a job with the Austria national team to fall back on should his consultancy role with United fall through, Rangnick is firmly a man with nothing to lose. There could still be one final outburst in the offing.
