What do you get when you combine DeLorean and DJ Venus Dupree? National Museums NI is giving you the chance to find out.
As part of NI Science Festival, Ulster Transport Museum will host Innovate Late, a special late-night opening on February 18th from 6:30pm. Attendees will sip on a science-themed cocktail and enjoy the synthy sounds of the incredible DJ Venus Dupree while exploring all of the galleries.
Innovate Late attendees will have an exclusive chance to experience the new video game ‘Inertial Drift’, which promises a virtual driving experience like no other, while if it's a slightly more sedate experience you're after, then you can try out the green screen tractor.
Museum of Innovation, which launched in 2021, brings to life the stories of some inspirational local pioneers of STEM, past and present. All the objects on display and their inventors have contributed in some way to Northern Ireland’s long and illustrious history of innovation.
Adriana Margariti will be introduced as a new Innovator in Focus. She and her team will be on hand throughout the evening to talk about their ground-breaking research in stem cells to support regenerative medicine.
Clare Ablett, Curator of Transport at National Museums NI, at the Museum of Innovation Exhibition, said: “Innovate Late is a really cool concept and we’re delighted to be able to open our doors to the public after hours and present our galleries in this new and exciting way as part of NI Science Festival.
“Ulster Transport Museum is a contemporary place and represents new thinking in how it presents the stories of our innovators and our history in science and engineering.
"Innovate Late is another powerful representation of how fresh, creative thinking can help people to connect with our history through our collections.
“We’ve put together a really great evening for grown-ups. So whether you’re a fan of sports cars, a lover of cocktails, a gamer or a bit of a nerd when it comes to all things science, Innovate Late won’t disappoint.”
Innovate Late takes place on Friday February 18th from 6:30pm to 8:30pm. Tickets are priced at just £7.50 per person and are available to book here.
In addition to Innovate Late, National Museums NI will also host Plastic Soup - Marine Litter in the Sea Around Us as part of its NI Science Festival events - did you know that 11 million tons of plastic enters the Earth's oceans every year?
This free exhibition is taking place at the Ulster Museum from February 17-27 and is an excellent opportunity for people of all ages to learn about the impact marine litter has on our environment in an updated Sea Around Us display.
Nature Presents in Discover Nature will take place from February 15-27 and is great family day out that promises wonder and awe. Free to visit, attendees big and small will learn about different types of specimens from plants to fossils, and have the chance to quiz our in-house experts.
