'Expecting big things' - Manchester United fans send message to Pogba and Rashford vs Tottenham as Fernandes misses out

Manchester United fans are hoping to see Paul Pogba and Marcus Rashford make the most of their opportunities against Tottenham this afternoon.

United host Tottenham at Old Trafford this afternoon as they look to put their dismal showing in the Manchester derby behind. In the process, they’ll hope to get their top-four hopes back on track.

There has been plenty of fallout following United’s defeat to Manchester City last weekend, with so many of their ongoing issues coming home to roost again at the Etihad. They’ll have to put what has been another tough week behind them, with more reports of unrest and Rashford considering his future.

But the build-up to today’s game has been far from ideal for United with uncertainty surrounding who would be lining up at Old Trafford this afternoon.

Dean Henderson had looked set to deputise for David de Gea, with the Spain international returning a positive Covid-19 test. Confusion reigned though when it emerged De Gea’s results may have been a false positive.

The goalkeeper has indeed retained his place in the line-up, but the rest of the side makes for interesting reading. Among the changes to the line-up, Bruno Fernandes is out through illness, but Cristiano Ronaldo returns after missing out against City.

Elsewhere, Raphael Varane returns to the side, as do Diogo Dalot and Nemanja Matic, while Rashford gets the nod after his turbulent week. And the fans had plenty of messages to send to the forward, as well as Pogba, after seeing the team to take on Tottenham.

It could be a pivotal day for United in their battle to finish in the Premier League’s top four this season. Having been overtaken by Arsenal following their defeat in the Manchester derby, the Reds will be looking to bounce back immediately this afternoon.

And they can ill-afford another slip-up today as they face one of their rivals for that final Champions League spot. Spurs sit just two points behind United ahead of the game, and with two games still in hand for Antonio Conte’s side, they could deliver a decisive blow to their hosts’ hopes.
