Expansion approved at recently acquired North Yorkshire business park on former RAF air base

A new warehouse and industrial development has been approved near Wetherby, with hundreds of new jobs anticipated.

Marston Business Park, already one of the largest sites in North Yorkshire with 190,000 sq ft of the 54 acre site developed, will welcome eight new units on two plots.

Construction will start in September, with completion eyed for April 2023.

It is the first investment by new owner Columbia Threadneedle Investments, a global asset management group, following last year’s £8.6 million acquisition from Regional REIT Ltd.

The first plot will see five units added, ranging from 3,000 sq ft up to 6,000 sq ft, while Plot C will offer three units ranging from 10,500 sq ft to 46,500 sq ft.

To be leased, they are being marketed by Gent Visick, while the estate and the construction is managed by Workman and Partners.

Paul Mack, director at GV, said: “It’s an exciting time to be involved in this next phase of Marston Business Park. The estate has such a rich history and is benefitting from Columbia Threadneedle’s vision which will elevate this highly popular estate into a modern logistics park.”

Marston Business Park, at Tockwith, sits four miles to the north east of Wetherby and a similar distance from both Junctions 46 and 47 of the A1(M).

It was originally a World War Two airbase, RAF Marston Moor, which trained aircrew on the Halifax Bomber between 1942 and 1945.
