This Sunday marks the beginning of expanded alcohol sales in Lexington. Restaurants and bars will be able to serve alcohol by the drink starting at 6:00 A.M. This week the Council gave final approval to moving the sales time up by five hours on Sunday. Peter Kiley is part-owner of McCarthy’s Irish Bar on Upper.
“I don’t think it’s gonna make much difference to most bars. But, the ones that do an early breakfast I think it will be very helpful for them,” said Kiley.
Kiley said McCarthy’s will continue to open most times at 11:00 on Sunday. He said the exception could be four to six times a year.
“World Cup Soccer or qualifiers or rugby that are on early sometimes on a Sunday morning and it will be nice to be able to open for those,” said Kiley.
The new revised ordinance doesn’t affect package liquor stores where sales are allowed after 1:00 on Sunday.
