Exit polls reveal stark differences between Trump and Haley supporters

Trump voters: 70% registered Republicans, 27% undeclared/independents, 3% unregistered.

New Hampshire Exit Polls Reveal Stark Contrasts in Republican Primary Voters

As the Republican primary race in New Hampshire unfolds, exit polls are shedding light on the varying perspectives of Republican voters and the contrasting coalitions supporting Nikki Haley and Donald Trump. The poll results paint a picture of two distinct universes, metaphorically reminiscent of Mars and Venus.

According to the exit polls, a significant 70 percent of Trump voters are registered Republicans, indicating strong support within the party. However, the data also reveals an intriguing twist - 27 percent of Trump's supporters are registered as undeclared or independents, with an additional 3 percent being unregistered before today. This suggests that Trump's appeal extends beyond traditional party lines, attracting a diverse base of supporters to his coalition.

On the other hand, Haley's coalition appears to be a mirror image, representing an alternate universe within the Republican primary. Among Haley voters, only 27 percent are registered Republicans, with a whopping 70 percent registered as undeclared. This stark contrast highlights the differing ideologies and allegiances within the Republican party, with Haley attracting support from a significant number of independent voters.

Another key factor that sets the two candidates apart is their supporters' perception of the 2020 election results. While Joe Biden indisputably won the election, the exit polls show a clear division between Trump and Haley voters regarding the legitimacy of his victory. Among Trump voters, an overwhelming 80 percent say that Biden did not legitimately win the 2020 election, despite evidence to the contrary. In contrast, Haley voters overwhelmingly acknowledge the legitimacy of Biden's win, with 83 percent correctly stating that he was the rightful winner. Only 15 percent of Haley's supporters held the mistaken belief that Biden did not win legitimately.

These divergent perspectives on the 2020 election reflect the broader polarization within the Republican party, with Trump's base largely rejecting the outcome while Haley's supporters accept it. This ideological divide has profound implications for the future direction of the party and its ability to unite behind a common agenda.

As the New Hampshire primary continues to unfold, these exit polls offer valuable insight into the dynamics at play within the Republican party. The contrasting coalitions of Nikki Haley and Donald Trump illuminate the diverse range of beliefs and loyalties among Republican primary voters. Whether these differences will have a lasting impact on the party's future remains to be seen, but they undoubtedly signal a Republican electorate that is far from monolithic.
