Exeter Airport launches new Belfast flights with Emerald Airlines

Exeter Airport has launched new flights to Belfast as it continues to expand its route network.

Emerald Airlines, the regional services operator of Irish carrier Air Lingus has begun operating five flights a week from the South West to Northern Ireland.

It marks the second route from Exeter for Emerald Airlines, which the airport recently announced will fly business and leisure passengers to Dublin, as a connecting service for new routes to five destinations in North America.

Stephen Wiltshire, managing director of Exeter Airport, said the transport hub was “delighted” to see the new flights to Belfast City Airport begin on Thursday (May 26), saying the route to the Northern Irish capital was “popular” among passengers.

Mr Wiltshire said: “It means we’ll be offering 29 destinations for 2022/23 and providing passengers across the region with even more choice from their local airport.”

Ciarán Smith, head of commercial at Emerald Airlines, added the new Exeter route was part of an expansion of services from its Belfast base, which will also see the addition of two new ultra-low fuel burn aircraft to its fleet.

Exeter Airport is owned and operated by Regional and City Airports (RCA), part of Rigby Group plc. RCA also operate s Bournemouth Airport in the South West, as well as Norwich Airport and Coventry Airport, while it holds a management contract for Solent Airport near Portsmouth.
